Paul Temple Films

Paul Temple’s popularity with the British public lead to four movies being made based upon the radio serials, three of which featured British heartthrob John Bentley in the title role of Paul Temple. These were:

  • Send for Paul Temple (1946) starring Anthony Hulme as Temple and Joy Shelton as Steve, produced and directed by John Argyle for Butchers/Nettlefold Films.
  • Calling Paul Temple (1948) based upon the radio serial Send for Paul Temple Again starring John Bentley as Temple and Dinah Sheriden as Steve, produced by Ernest G. Roy and directed by Maclean Rogers for Butchers/Nettlefold Films.
  • Paul Temple’s Triumph (1950) based upon the radio serial News of Paul Temple starring John Bentley as Temple and Dinah Sheriden as Steve, produced by Ernest G. Roy and directed by McLean Rogers for Butchers/Nettlefold Films.
  • Paul Temple Returns (1952) based upon the radio serial Paul Temple Intervenes starring John Bentley as Temple and Patricia Dainton as Steve, produced by Ernest G. Roy and directed by MacLean Rogers for Butchers/Nettlefold Films.

Francis Durbridge wrote the screenplay for three of these films either alone or in co-operation with others and was a regular presence on set advising on the script and filming.
